Week 3 January 2005: Rain = 68 millimetres this week.
We received lots of very welcome rain. Our house tank was filled to overflowing and the gardens were refreshed.
There was a horticultural surprise in one of our gardens this week. A Melaleuca cardiophylla burst into bloom. This is another attractive species from Western Australia . We feel that the Western Australian Melaleucas are one group of native plants with huge horticultural potential. This Western State is home to at least 109 Melaleuca species.
This week we planted a Banksia dryandroides in a new section of our Lawn Garden . This Western Australian native was one of our Christmas presents. This species is a low, spreading shrub with golden brown flowers in spring and summer.
