Austrostipa ramosissima is a tall grass that may reach a height of two metres. Plants form cane-like clumps. Weeping seed heads are carried from winter through spring to summer. The flower heads are an attractive feature. Cut back spent flower heads to encourage fresh growth.

Feather Grass could be planted either individually or in clumps amongst native shrubs in garden beds.

Austrostipa ramosissima is widespread in New South Wales as well as Queensland and Lord Howe Island.

The Australian grass genus Stipa is now known as Austrostipa.
